You can add, edit, or remove phone numbers to your Google Account. Phone numbers are used for different reasons, and you have controls to manage how your numbers are used.
Important note: You may need to wait a week before you can use your new phone number to confirm your identity when performing sensitive actions, such as changing your password.
Add, edit, or remove a phone number
- Go to Your Google Account.
- Click on Personal information.
- Click on Phone
Your phone number.
- From here, you can do the following:
- Add your phone number: Next to the Phone section, click Add an account recovery phone number to help keep your account secure. Select the country associated with your phone number from the drop-down list and enter your phone number.
- Change your phone numberNext to your phone number, click the edit icon
- Delete your phone number: Next to your phone number, click Delete
- Follow the instructions in the box that appears.

How are phone numbers used?
Your phone number is associated with certain Google services you set up or use.
To see some of the services that use your phone number, see the section Phone In your Google Account. To learn more information or make changes, click on the service.
Some Google services that use phone numbers may not be listed on the page. You can change your number in the settings for specific services, such as the following services:

note: You can add only one recovery phone number. If you can no longer access your account, this number helps you regain access. You can add more phone numbers to let people contact you and receive Google Calendar notifications.
Help people connect with you
Turn “More relevant ads and better services from Google” settings on or off
These settings allow your phone number to be used in Google services to show you more relevant ads. If you don’t want to show personalized ads, turn off the settings.
- Open Your Google Account.
- On the left or at the top, click Personal information.
- Click on Phone.
- Select the phone number you want to change.
- Under ‘Preferences’, turn ‘More relevant ads and better services from Google’ on or off.
Information: If the “In Google services” option is turned on, it will appear under the “Usage” section.
If the Phone page says “On Google services,” the number can be used on Google services.
To find out if your phone number is being used in this way:
- Go to a section Phone In your Google Account.
- Next to the “Usage” section, look for “In Google services.”
Stop using your number for Google services
- Go to a section Phone In your Google Account.
- Next to your phone number, click Delete
- Go to a section The phone number designated for account recovery In your Google Account and re-add your number.
- To continue using your number on other Google services, go to those services and re-add it.
Confirm your phone number
When you set up a Google Account, you can let Google services know your phone number. If you allow this, we’ll make sure you own this number, and we’ll try to re-verify it from time to time to make sure it’s still yours. Learn more about verifying your number.
