Gold prices advanced on Wednesday, extending their recovery above $3,975 per ounce as a decline in the US dollar supported demand for precious metals. Investors also assessed diplomatic developments involving the United States and Iran, alongside the potential economic implications of the US midterm elections.

At 01:11 ET (06:11 GMT), spot gold gained 1.2% to $3,978.71 per ounce, while US gold futures rose by the same percentage to $3,988.95.

The gains followed a volatile period for bullion, with uncertainty surrounding the Middle East conflict, inflation and monetary policy continuing to influence investor sentiment.

Gold and Other Precious Metals Advance

Gold strengthened alongside other major precious metals as the US dollar weakened against a basket of international currencies.

The US Dollar Index declined 0.4% to 101.50, making dollar-denominated commodities relatively less expensive for buyers using other currencies.

Silver rose 1.6% to $50.5675 per ounce, while platinum increased 1% to $1,432.93.

Palladium also recorded gains, with spot prices climbing 1.7% to $952.50 per ounce and futures advancing 2% to $948.75.

The broad increase across precious metals reflected improved market sentiment following recent selling pressure.

Dollar Weakness Supports Bullion Demand

The decline in the US dollar provided support for gold, which is internationally priced in the American currency.

A weaker dollar generally improves the relative affordability of bullion for international investors, potentially encouraging demand.

Gold had gained nearly 2% during the previous trading session before experiencing some fluctuations as investors responded to developments in the Middle East.

The metal’s recovery comes after a period of substantial losses, with traders continuing to assess whether inflation pressures and interest rate expectations could limit further gains.

US-Iran Negotiations Remain a Key Market Driver

Diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict between the United States and Iran remain an important influence on financial and commodity markets.

Washington and Tehran have been reviewing new proposals from mediators aimed at narrowing their differences and preventing a renewed escalation of military hostilities.

The negotiations followed limited US airstrikes against targets on Iran’s Qeshm Island, located within the Strait of Hormuz.

The military operations added to concerns about regional security, although subsequent indications that the White House was prepared to allow more time for negotiations helped reduce expectations of immediate escalation.
