Gold has steadied after a two-day decline following remarks from a Federal Reserve official indicating that one additional interest-rate increase may be warranted during the current year. It must be noted that, as per reports, no further monetary tightening is anticipated in 2027, which has bolstered market sentiment regarding the precious metal.

The price of Gold as per COMEX stood at $4,179 per ounce compared to the previous closing of $4,184. Meanwhile, the price of Silver on COMEX stood at $59.30 per ounce, compared to the previous close of $59.41.

As per Bloomberg, crude oil advanced as renewed escalation in Middle Eastern hostilities posed risks of additional energy supply disruptions that could exert upward pressure on inflation and strengthen arguments for elevated borrowing costs. Brent crude was trading above $106 per barrel.

Another Bloomberg report underscored that Federal Reserve Bank of New York President John Williams indicated that he considers one additional interest-rate increase to be appropriate during the current year.

Following his statements, US Treasury yields declined marginally, providing support to gold, which generally performs more favourably in an environment characterised by lower interest rates given its lack of interest-bearing characteristics.

US consumer price index data scheduled for release later on Wednesday may offer insights into the Federal Reserve’s prospective rate trajectory, particularly following the institution’s initial rate increase since 2023 that occurred in the previous month.

Furthermore, derivatives market participants are assigning a minimal probability to a rate increase at the current month’s policy decision, while estimating approximately a 90% probability of an increase occurring in December.

Meanwhile, a Reuters report said that the International Monetary Fund, on Tuesday, drew attention to the hazards associated with heightened levels of public debt and escalating bond yields, which may experience further increases due to inflationary pressures stemming from geopolitical conflicts.
