Fresh from his Ballon d’Or triumph, Harry Kane is standing on the precipice of Champions League history. If the 33-year-old Bayern Munich striker finds the net against Atletico Madrid away from home tonight, he will match Cristiano Ronaldo’s all-time record of scoring in 11 consecutive matches in Europe’s elite competition.

Kane arrives in the Spanish capital looking to shake off a rare domestic blip. In his first outing since being crowned the world’s best player, the Englishman missed a penalty and hit the crossbar during last Saturday’s 2-2 home draw against Borussia Dortmund. He did manage an assist, helping Bayern maintain their grip on the Bundesliga summit — tied with joint-table toppers Dortmund on 18 points after eight games, but keeping first place on goal difference.

In Europe, however, Kane’s rhythm has been relentless. His strike (and an assist) in a 2-2 draw against Arsenal on Matchday 3 made him only the second player in history to score in 10 successive Champions League fixtures. The streak began back in January with a brace in a 2-0 home victory over Union SG, and he has racked up 13 goals across the 10-game stretch.

Now, he is just 90 minutes away from equaling the benchmark set by the competition’s all-time leading scorer (140 goals). Ronaldo’s legendary 11-match run yielded 17 goals, beginning with a brace in Real Madrid’s 4-1 victory over Juventus in the 2017 Champions League final. The Portuguese maestro then scored in all six group-stage matches of the 2017-18 campaign, followed by both legs of the round of 16 against PSG and the quarterfinals against Juventus. Coincidentally, the streak only ended when he drew a blank against Bayern Munich in the semifinals, though Real eventually went on to lift the trophy.

Kane’s current form suggests Ronaldo’s milestone is under threat. The forward already boasts 10 goals and eight assists across all competitions this season, including four goals and two assists in the Champions League.

Since joining the Bavarian giants in 2023, Kane has discovered a new lease of Champions League life. Currently eighth in the all-time scoring charts with 58 goals, his European strike rate has increased rapidly in Germany. After managing 21 goals in 32 appearances for Tottenham, he has plundered 37 in just 41 games for Bayern.

Already the top-scoring English player in the competition’s history and the holder of the record for the most goals by an Englishman in a single Champions League campaign (14 in 2025-26), Kane now has Ronaldo’s streak in his sights tonight.
