Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are still making headlines together on the big stage.
The latest moment came after Portugal’s commanding 5-0 rout of Uzbekistan in Group K at the World Cup on Tuesday.
In his post-game conference after logging a brace for his first goals at this year’s tournamenta reporter began to ask Ronaldo a question about Lionel Messi’s two goals vs. Austria on Monday, as well as Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland.
But before the reporter said Mbappe, Ronaldo quickly pivoted to his left and said “next question” toward another reporter.
Messi currently leads the Golden Boot race with five goals in two games, including an opening-game hat-trick vs. Algeria in a 3-0 result.
Ronaldo did not join the race after the first game as Portugal were held to a 1-1 draw vs. DR Congo. The 41-year-old striker’s performance drew heavy criticism as he did not get involved enough to be the difference maker he was in his prime.
But Congo’s squad also features more notable and experienced defenders than Uzbekistan, with Ronaldo taking advantage with his stellar movement in the box.
This likely won’t be the last time the two make headlines this summer.
The Argentina star scored his 17th and 18th career goals at the men’s World Cup against Austria, breaking Miroslav Klose’s record and becoming the tournament’s all-time leading scorer.
