Van Oevelen Valencia Loan Looks Set For Early End

Blues keeper Kayne van Oevelen’s loan spell with Valencia is looking increasingly likely to be cut short in January with the Dutchman still to make his debut for the La Liga club and now having suffered a knee injury.

Van Oevelen is expected to be out of action for two or three weeks with the injury suffered in training on Friday.

A statement from the Murciélagos reads: “Valencia CF goalkeeper Kayne van Oevelen suffered a sprained right knee in training on Friday at the Ciudad Deportiva (training ground).

“The Valencia goalkeeper will follow medical, physiotherapy and rehabilitation treatment at the Ciudad Deportiva until clinical improvement.”

The Dutchman has had a frustrating time since joining Valencia on a season-long loan in August and is yet to make a single appearance.

There is speculation in Spain that the 23-year-old, who Town signed from Eredivisie side Volendam for an initial £3.4 million in July, will be recalled by the Blues in January to be sent on loan elsewhere with Valencia already looking at other options.

According to reports, the Blues can cut the spell short in the winter transfer window without any financial penalty if Van Oevelen starts fewer than half of Valencia’s first-team matches between the end of the November international break and the Christmas hiatus.

Valencia have three La Liga matches and potentially two Copa del Rey ties during that period.

Town had lined-up a loan to a Championship club prior to the completion of Van Oevelen’s signing from Volendam but that was put on hold and eventually fell through after Christian Walton suffered his foot injury in pre-season.
