(Financial News) The World Mobility Summit, held every two years by FISITA, a global federation of automotive engineering societies, took place in South Korea for the first time.
On the 5th Hyundai Motor Group said it had hosted the FISITA World Mobility Summit 2026 with FISITA over two days starting on the 4th at Rolling Hills Hotel in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province.
Founded in 1948, FISITA is a global cooperative organization that brings together automotive engineering societies and industry experts from around the world to promote knowledge exchange and technological innovation in automotive engineering. The World Mobility Summit is a forum where senior executives and technology leaders from mobility companies gather to discuss industry challenges and technology directions. As FISITA’s chair company, Hyundai Motor Group planned and operated the event’s overall program.
This year’s theme was “Embracing the Complexities of Mobility.” The summit addressed key technologies and challenges, including software-defined vehicles (SDVs), artificial intelligence (AI), autonomous driving, and battery and energy infrastructure. Executives and technology leaders from automakers and parts suppliers, including Hyundai Motor Group, GM, Toyota, Robert Bosch GmbH, Xiaomi and Changan Automobile, attended and discussed advances in AI and software, the advancement of autonomous driving, the diversification of electrification technologies, and ways for the industry to collaborate during keynote speeches and panel discussions.
In a keynote speech on the first day, Manfred Harrer, president of the R&D division at Hyundai Motor Company and Kia Corporation, introduced Hyundai Motor Group’s electrification strategy, which encompasses battery electric vehicles (BEVs), hybrids (HEVs), extended-range electric vehicles (EREVs) and fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs). He also outlined the direction of technology development aimed at responding flexibly to market changes and customer needs. He stressed that combining engineering technology with AI-based digital capabilities would strengthen the group’s competitiveness in developing future vehicles.
Kim Chang-hwan, the first Korean to serve as FISITA president and Hyundai Motor Company and Kia Corporation executive vice president in charge of electrification and energy solutions, said in his opening remarks, “With the automotive industry facing an unprecedented period of technological transition, strengthening diverse technological approaches and global collaboration is key to the development of future mobility.”
Vehicles and technologies from major automakers were also on display at the venue. Hyundai Motor Group presented the Genesis GV90 and Hyundai Tucson, as well as a battery pack, a hydrogen tank and a robot platform.
Vice President Kim said, “Hyundai Motor Group will continue to contribute to the development of the future mobility industry by strengthening its competitiveness in core future mobility technologies while continuing to take part in technological exchange and cooperation across the global automotive industry.”(email protected) Kim Dong-chan Reporter
