Examinations confirmed an injury to the right thigh
FC Barcelona announced on Wednesday that Rodri underwent tests after suffering symptoms at the end of the first half of Tuesday’s Champions League match against Aston Villa. After the break, he was replaced by Marc Bernal, and Barcelona won 3-0.
“Examinations confirm that he suffered a minor injury to the biceps muscle of his right leg” – the club said in a statement. The midfielder will miss Sunday’s match against Atletico Madridand the date of return will depend on how the injury progresses.

The match against Atletico is the last round for Barcelona before the break for national team matches. Hansi Flick will have to find a replacement for the player who quickly started playing regularly in front of the defense after his summer transfer. Bernal is one possibility; the coach can also use Frenkie de Jong in this position.
Since the summer transfer Rodri he played in 14 games for Barcelona in all competitions, of which he started 11 in the starting lineup. In La Liga alone, he accumulated 697 minutes in ten appearances in the 2026/27 season. He scored one goal and made one assist.
Bernal also regularly appears in the league, although he has played for a shorter period so far. In nine appearances he accumulated 356 minutes, almost half as much as Rodri. Frenkie de Jong has played 98 minutes across two games in the competition so far.
