Ai fooled many, especially some top news sites around the world.

In the images you see a stylized figure of CR7 performing his usual vertical jump followed by a half turn.

I certainly wasnt fooled by it, and a few things gave it away as Ai, but the one thing that was for me is the fact Madeira has never put a good drone show on, and this would have been way out of the Islands league.

The video of the alleged drone show in Funchal, on the island of Madeira, in homage to Cristiano Ronaldo’s announced farewell from the World Cup, has thousands of views and shares, but it was generated by artificial intelligence (AI).

Claim: “Madeira bid farewell to Cristiano Ronaldo with a drone show after his last World Cup match.”

Since this morning, a video has been circulating that supposedly shows “Madeira bidding farewell to Cristiano Ronaldo with a drone show, after the last game of his career in the World Cup”: See the video here.

In the images you see a stylized figure of CR7 performing his usual vertical jump followed by a half-turn, under a national flag and the message ‘thank you, 7’, all composed of what appear to be drones with red, green and white lights.

The origin of this version is a post that has already garnered over 4.3 million views, and claims to be “Cristiano Ronaldo’s farewell with drones in his hometown of Madeira, after playing his last match for Portugal against Spain in the World Cup”

Facts: The video is fake and was generated by artificial intelligence.

A simple analysis of the images reveals that they are not real and were generated by AI. One of the most glaring details is the discrepancy between the supposed spectacle and the images allegedly captured by the cell phones of two spectators, showing not only different details but also a lack of synchronization with the spectacle.

Furthermore, there is no news about the event in the media or on the pages of regional authorities, and through reverse image searches, it is possible to locate the author of the video, namely the account Seihan AIfilms on Instagram (https://archive.ph/VvzxD) and on TikTok (https://archive.ph/A4vyb), where the images have already accumulated more than 22 million views.

On both networks, the author clearly explains that the images are generated by AI using the PixVerse app and offers to share the ‘prompt’ (the instructions for creating the video) with anyone who comments ‘CR7’.

In response to Lusa, the video’s author, a young Peruvian man, makes it clear that he is “an AI content creator and that this video is marked as created with AI,” and that the problem of the misuse of the images as real should fall on “the people who spread this as if it were true.”

In addition to social media, the video is also being shared as real by international news outlets that have not done any fact-checking: https://archive.ph/PRnqd, https://archive.ph/hSq7h and https://archive.ph/dgAcw (examples).

Lusa Verifica also questioned the Funchal City Council about whether it was aware of the video or of any recent show similar to the one in the video, but received no response.

However, in response to Notícias ao Minuto, a source from the Regional Government of Madeira confirmed “that it is content generated through AI, and did not happen”: https://archive.ph/X2LMT.

+++ Lusa Fact Check Assessment: False +++

The video of the alleged drone show held in Funchal, on the island of Madeira, in homage to Cristiano Ronaldo’s last game in the World Cup is clearly fake.

The images, which have been shared thousands of times and have millions of views on social media and some other media outlets, were generated using an AI tool, as the author himself acknowledges.
