The latest cold front to sweep through Southeast Texas is making its mark with slightly cooler temperatures after some Tuesday rain. But as is customary in the Houston area, yet another front is emerging, and this one should reach us over the weekend with some relatively dramatic drops in temps.
On the heels of Tuesday’s heavy rain, cooler conditions have ushered into the area with likely Wednesday highs in the mid-70s and lows under 60 degrees. That should continue Thursday with the chance of added showers and highs in the 70s, lows near 60. Meanwhile, weekend temperatures should be below normal for Houston during this time of the year, said the National Weather Service out of its Houston/Galveston office.
“The main weather story Friday into the weekend is that temperatures will be below normal over the region,” the NWS said in its forecast. “The real temperature changes should be felt Sunday, Monday and Tuesday mornings as lower humidities are coupled with lower min temperatures with readings in the mid 40s north to around the low 60s along the coast.”
That’s right: low temperatures could fall even further below 60 to start next week, with areas north of Houston to even experience 40-ish-degree temps. The NWS currently lists Crockett and Huntsville as the big winners in a Monday morning low temperature sweepstakes, with 43 and 44 degrees forecast, respectively, for those cities. Houston’s low for Monday presently stands at 52 degrees.

As it stands, the NWS is forecasting sunny skies Friday with a high close to 77 and low around 58, partly sunny conditions Saturday with a high near 73 and low around 55, and a mostly sunny Sunday with a high just around 70 and a low near 52.
