It began circulating on TikTok, a few hours after the Portuguese team won the second Nations League trophy, a supposed “official statement” with the announcement of the end of Cristiano Ronaldo’s career.
“It is with a mix of emotion and gratitude that Cristiano Ronaldo announces that he will end his football career after participating in the Nations League”, reads the beginning of the text, which also includes a quote attributed to the Portuguese international. “I leave with my head held high, with a full heart. I take with me every applause, every tear, every moment lived on the field. Thank you, world.”
But did Ronaldo really announce the end of his career after the Nations League?
Quite the opposite. After the team’s victory over the Spanish team on penalties, in a press conference broadcast by RTP3Cristiano Ronaldo assured that next year “practically nothing will change” in his career.
“Al-Nassr, therefore?” asked one of the journalists, to whom the Portuguese international replied: “Sim.”
A Google search for quotes attributed to Ronaldo did not find any results that indicated the player had said them. There is also no news related to the matter – something that would be expected if the national team captain had made the announcement.
Therefore, Ronaldo not only did not announce the end of his career as he confirmed that he will continue playing for Al-Nassr, from Saudi Arabia. The supposed official statement published on TikTok It’s not official, it’s not true.
