Two Spotify updates have landed for Australian users. One is aimed at podcast creators and their fans, the other at anyone who thinks they know an artist better than their friends do.
Podcast Memberships launch in Australia
Australia is one of the first markets to get Spotify’s new Memberships feature. It lets podcast creators offer exclusive content and experiences to their biggest fans and earn recurring revenue directly on Spotify. Spotify previewed it at its Investor Day in May.
For fans, joining takes a few taps. You find a Membership on a show’s Spotify page, subscribe, pay, and get access to the exclusive content straight away.
Creators choose what to offer, including exclusive audio and video, bonus episodes, fewer ads and early access. They can spread these benefits across multiple tiers and price points.
Spotify is also adding tools to help creators grow their membership base. These include targeted promotions, free trials and analytics that show how listeners turn into paying members. Member badges, welcome clips and other ways to connect with a community are coming soon.
Memberships sit alongside advertising, the Spotify Partner Program and other ways creators earn on the platform, and creators keep 90% of Membership revenue.
Australia is one of 34 markets in the initial rollout. To qualify, a show needs to be hosted on Spotify for Creators or Megaphone, with at least 100 consumption hours, 100 listeners or viewers, and three published episodes.

Music Quiz comes to more artists
Spotify first launched Music Quiz with BTS earlier this year to celebrate ARIRANG. It’s now expanding to more artists in Australia.
The quiz asks questions about an artist’s music, career and defining moments. You can share your score and challenge friends to see who comes out on top.
To try it:
- Update your Spotify app to the latest version.
- Play a track from a participating artist, then scroll down in the Now Playing view to find the Music Quiz card.
- Tap to start answering questions.
- Finish the quiz to see your score.
- Share your result and challenge your friends.
