SUNNYVALE — Medical device and technology company Intuitive Surgical sold a Sunnyvale research and office building it plans to vacate for well above its assessed value, documents filed on Nov. 4 in Santa Clara County show.
Bay Area real estate firm Graymark Capital led an affiliated group that paid about $35.8 million for the building at 1450 Kifer Road, documents show, more than double the property’s $17.7 million assessed value.
The building totals 78,200 square feet, according to a marketing brochure prepared by Cushman & Wakefield commercial real estate executives Scott Prosser, Jack DePuy, Seth Siegel, Ryan Venezia and Courtney Trunnell.
Intuitive Surgical bought the building in 2008 and had occupied it since then.
The tech company in recent years has launched a shopping spree for South Bay properties.
From 2017 through 2023, Intuitive Surgical spent $271 million to collect an array of buildings in Sunnyvale and Santa Clara, even as the company developed a new campus totaling 1.17 million square feet at 950 Kifer Road in Sunnyvale.
In March, Intuitive Surgical trimmed its South Bay real estate holdings with a $47 million sale of seven parcels across the street from the Sunnyvale headquarters of cybersecurity company Fortinet.
Sunnyvale-based Intuitive Surgical’s products include a cutting-edge surgical robot.
